The International Poplar Commission (IPC) is a technical statutory body of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and it aims to promote the cultivation, conservation and utilization of poplars and willows. It serves the members through National Poplar Commissions of respective countries, Working Parties and full Sessions.

The 24th Session of the IPC is scheduled to be held at Dehradun in 2012. Poplars and willows contribute immensely to socio-economic development and sustainable livelihood, particularly in rural areas, besides producing raw material for wood-based industries. The planting area, technology and social, economic and environmental impacts of poplars and willows are expanding rapidly in India.

The full Sessions of the IPC are held every 4 years for the poplar and willow community to provide a suitable platform for policy makers, forest managers, scientists, academicians, industries, tree growers, etc. to learn about research and development on these species across the globe and exchange ideas for further cooperation and promotion of these valuable resources for myriad tangible and intangible benefits.
